Periodontal disease is a highly common infection of the periodontal tissues (gums and bone) that are responsible for supporting the teeth.

Dr. May is a detailed professional with the highest integrity, who seeks to build a rapport and trust with patients. Predictable, gentle care, with superb, stable, long-term outcomes is her goal. Her periodontal passion is delivering optimal results for highly cosmetic surgical cases, involving implant therapy, minimally invasive soft tissue grafting of recession defects, and esthetic smile enhancement by gingival reshaping of the upper front teeth.
Dr. May has been actively involved in dentistry for over 25 years, with the last 20 years in the practice of periodontics. She completed dental school at Dalhousie University and then a one-year general practice hospital-based residency, followed by 2 years in general practice. Her three year specialty education and Master’s degree were completed at The Ohio State University, in Columbus, OH.
She enjoys collaborating with other specialists for complex multi-disciplinary
periodontal cases, and is board-certified, in both the U.S. and Canada. She teaches periodontics part-time as a clinical faculty at A.T. Still University in Mesa, AZ.
When not at the office, you will find Dr. May enjoying live theater, cooking new recipes, practicing yoga, hiking and tenting in the great outdoors. She loves spending time with her husband and sons, and volunteering with with Central Christian Church in Gilbert, as well as other local organizations.
Dr. Mascarenhas completed his specialty training from Indiana University School of
Dentistry. He practiced as a general dentist for 10 years and completed a hospital based general practice residency prior to his periodontal specialty training. Following completion of specialty training, Dr. Mascarenhas was in full-time private practice for over 12 years.
Most recently, he was the director of the graduate training program
for the Periodontics residency at the University of Tennessee. As director of the program, he oversaw the surgical and IV sedation training of residents who have gone on to obtain licenses and to practice periodontics in several states in the US.
With over 27 years of well-rounded general dental and surgical experience, Dr. Mascarenhas is committed to offering you the expertise and full scope of surgical options you deserve. He will devote the time needed to listen to your concerns and treat you with empathy and respect. His interests lie in implant surgery with emphasis on soft and hard tissue reconstruction to give you a lasting, healthy and functional smile.
He is Board Certified by the American Board of Periodontology and is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology. He is married to the love of his life and has two wonderful boys, who keep him busy with soccer and ice hockey. He and his family are actively involved in the community and Central Christian Church in Gilbert. He also coaches youth soccer and has an active lifestyle of hiking, biking, and camping.
